Nowadays, festivals are a multi-billion dollar business. And, with good reason. We live in an era where our culture has become so connected. We can watch our favorite TV shows, listen to the latest songs, and stay in touch with friends and family on social media almost any time of day. People want to experience their favorite moments with people they care about, and that’s where festivals step in.
The Las Vegas-based festival, just like any other, has grown significantly in size since its inception.
It’s safe to say that it depends on who you ask. With a capacity of 75,000 attendees, Tomorrowland is one of the biggest electronic music festivals in the world. But if you compare it to the biggest EDC-like festival in North America, the answer is definitely yes. EDC Vegas has drawn in upwards of 100,000 attendees in recent years.
First year: 30,0attendees
It’s a question that’s been asked time and time again. Tomorrowland is the biggest dance music festival in the world. In 2019, the festival welcomed more than 100,000 attendees. In comparison, EDC welcomed about 75,000 people. The answer is yes. Tomorrowland is definitely larger.
Second year: 60,0attendees
A competition for attendees’ attention, Tomorrowland is hands down the biggest dance music festival in the world. You’ll find the most hard-hitting trance, house, techno, and progressive sets at Tomorrowland, so if you want to hear the biggest names in dance music, this is the place to be.
Third year: 100,0attendees
Every year, over 100,000 people brave the heat and the crowds to attend Tomorrowland. I’ve been to both festivals and I can confirm that Tomorrowland is way bigger than EDC. Tomorrowland is easy to navigate and easy to get around. Many of the stages are located in the middle of the festival, which makes it easy to walk from one stage to the next. While I definitely prefer the smaller dance floor EDC has, I definitely appreciate all of the stages at Tomorrowland.
Fourth year: 150,0attendees
Let’s put it this way: we’re going to need two dance floors for tomorrow’s crowd. But don’t count out EDC just yet—it’s still one of the biggest dance music events in America, and the lineup is still chock-full of talented DJs and live acts.
Fifth year: 200,0attendees
While the attendance at Tomorrowland is larger than EDC’s, the size of the festival is only part of the story. EDC has been around for a long time and has developed a community of attendees and artists. Tomorrowland, on the other hand, started more recently and is still building out its brand. It’s a much smaller festival and as a result, it’s easier for attendees to get lost in the crowd.
Sixth year: 250,00attendees
It’s hard to argue with the staggering numbers and attendance of Tomorrowland. But in the world of dance music, there is a dance festival that is consistently able to out-draw Tomorrowland. Defend your home state at EDC with the pride of a true California resident!
Conclusion
In terms of attendance, the answer is yes. In 2019, Tomorrowland drew approximately 300,000 people while EDC pulled in around 400,000 attendees. However, those numbers are not all that surprising, considering that Tomorrowland is a single-day event while EDC is a four-day festival. Despite the fact that the two share a similar attendance, Tomorrowland is still an incredible feat in itself.
